International health insurer Allianz Worldwide Care has launched an externally accredited Diploma in Leadership for its staff, in partnership with Athlone Institute of Technology. The Diploma, which is aimed at enhancing leadership and management techniques, will be undertaken by every manager and will result in a ‘Level 8 Special Purpose Award’ professional qualification, equivalent to one year of academic study at honours degree level. This work based learning Diploma is very much aimed at enhancing practical skills which can be applied in the day to day work environment. It is fully aligned with the Allianz Group’s leadership competencies and values as well as with Allianz Worldwide Care’s own core skill competencies and performance management strategy.
Consultation meetings between Allianz Worldwide Care and Athlone Institute of Technology to discuss the possibility of setting up this kind of training programme began in the summer of 2009, as Allianz Worldwide Care wished to partner with a suitable third level institute to develop accreditation for staff development initiatives which would be aligned with the National Framework of Qualifications.
The Diploma is sponsored by Allianz Worldwide Care’s Chief Executive, Ron Buchan. Course content will consist of five modules, delivered over a two year period: Personal Development; Leadership and Management Development; Organising & Aligning - Strategic Perspective; Customer Focus and Results;
and Results through People
. All managers taking part in the programme have been educated to Degree Level as a minimum and have 5 or more years of management experience. This course recognises each participant’s prior learning and qualifications and integrates academic learning alongside on the job learning. Execution of the programme will include lectures, tutorials, assignments, group work, case studies, reflective practice and executive coaching.
